2014 Event Schedule

Greetings in the land of snow tires and the low air pressure within, folks. Hope you are all staying warm.

My over-eagerness for the 2014 driving season has once again taken over my better judgement and I’ve spent some time compiling an initial list of dates for mostly high-performance driving education (track time) events but also the nice, informal ADSI autocross events at Quonset. Click on the headings at top to sort them per column and you can slice and dice your way to finding something that might suit your fancy.

I’m going to try to be at just about every ADSI event I can swing this year (about one per month) so I hope at least some of you will jump into that scene here and there since its cheap, easy, close, and super friendly. And there is the LAFTAT award to try to win at our annual end-of-year celebration down at Castle Hill in Newport! Time to put the R compound tires onto the minivan!

If anyone needs any help figuring out where or how to sign up for anything, let me know. The stuff marked “PCA” is Porsche club stuff that may be a tad more exclusionary to people who don’t want to go to Excellence magazine and use VINs of cars for sale to join the Porsche Club without having to actually buy one.

As the info becomes available, I’ll probably either start a new list for other autocross-specific stuff or mesh it into this one since its sortable. There will be lots of autocross events up at the old Devens airfield in Ayer, MA. There are some at New Hampshire Motor Speedway too, but that’s a bit far for me to go for autocross. But if you want it, let me know. Maybe at some point, we’ll have adequate numbers to take over the airstrip in Hopedale MA for our use or figure out how to use Quonset when ADSI isn’t there...

And my wife has been grumbling that the Wives of the Automobile Club de FASRI is in the nascent form of staging shoe-trying and brassiere-buying excursions. Your wives may get dragged in too, so quickly get signed up for some events so you’re not sitting around the house while Jimmy Choo takes all your money!

BTW, now’s a great time to get that brake fluid flush and brake wear check which is about the only really big things your car will need to be ready this year! Spring will be here before we know it! (I hope!!)

Best,
-S

Great news, my Snell rated SA2010 full face, Pyrotect airflow series kevlar white helmet arrived today! Notice all those details, they are important when classifying a helmet. . Please note your grandfather's biker gang helmet with the German imperial WW1 spike on top or your uncle's 1970's motorcycle helmet wtih the cool stickers will not be accepted. Helmets need to be Snell SA rated 2005 or more recent. The Snell SA rating is critical. M rated helmets are for motorcycles, but it goes beyond that: you want a Snell SA rated helmet, and the least that will pass is 2005. Snell SA 2000 helmets are now obsolete (fire rules, others), so don't go scouring ebay for old helmets. Again, any old helmet will not do. 2005 helmets are not going to be that good for another few years, but generally speaking helmets become obsolete about 10 years after their year number. So if you are going to participate at all, you need a helmet. And if you're going to get a helmet, spend a few extra bucks on a full face. And if you're going to actually get a helmet to do these events, get an SA 2010 so it won't become obsolete in a year or two and you have to buy another one in a year or two. Contact Geoff @ Cynusperformance, they have the lowest prices I have ever seen. You could get a low price open face helmet for about 130 dollars, but for another 100 bucks you can go full face; I ask this, how much is your face worth http://cygnusperformance.com/cart.php?target=ca... We are already signed up for 9-6-14 at Thompson speedway for their Hooked on Driving event: https://www.hookedondriving.com/event-details/H... and in the process of signing up for 3-30-14 at ADSI HPDS http://hpds.1adsi.com/ See you there! Alberto
All I can say is you two are DEEP into this stuff! Impressive passion...
