Autocross - its for daily drivers. Really!

Hope you’re all enjoying a bit of sideways driving in the snow tonight (or some wine by the fire if you’re more sensible)!

I just ran across some light reading about how autocross is an ideal venue for our daily drivers (not in spite of them):

http://jalopnik.com/why-you-should-run-autocross-even-if-your-car-is-a-hunk-1505397108

And it highlights the autocross course at Lime Rock Park in CT which is a bit of a haul - 2.25 hours each way - but one of the more bucolic and lovely settings you can ask for out of a track…or a B&B…or a teahouse… From the reports I’m seeing, the LRP open autocross days look to involve some very laid back people and more driving than your body can take (possibly). Only 20 cars and many, many laps.

But our little ADSI outlet here in RI is a great gig too so I’m looking forward to seeing everybody out there seeing what the family mobiles can do for real.

Our ACF numbers are slowly growing and the driving season is slowly approaching so if anyone needs any help getting ready for it. If we get really good we can start a racing team - the French American Racing Team - if only to secure the acronym for the tshirts…

Happy shoveling!

Great stuff Sterling, thank you! Autocross really is for everyone, especially something like both Lime Rock or ADSI. Most autocrosses involve you going about 30mph all the time dodging cones and feeling like you are tripping on acid because it's so random, nothing makes sense and your eyes' sensory input does not seem to actually coincide with the stark reality of the overload of cones. ADSI and Lime Rock, for different reasons, are not so claustrophobic and truly allow you to enjoy your car over a much greater variety than just tight patterns of sensless cones in a tiny parking lot. You can bring any car, high performance or clunker and still have fun, be it a Lamborghini, a 1981 Chevrolet Chevette, or anything in between. I would say if anything smaller and lighter cars like stick-shift economy cars probably have the edge due to being lighter, easier to control, and not having too much power which is actually a drawback in these technical corners. Last year the winners at Lime Rock were not fancy cars, they were actually Honda Civics, a few vintage cars like a 1984 Jaguar, Miatas, Imprezas, basically economy cars, and often not very fast or highly modified ones either! Truly "run what ya brung"..... Here is the Lime Rock link (I already signed up for Saturday 3-8-14). Spots are limited so if you are interested call or email them sooner rather than later. Tell them I sent ya: http://www.limerock.com/index.php?option=com_co...
